2004 Sporty

THE SPORTY GETS SOME RUBBERS
AND RIDERS GET MORE WARRANTY

Hot news has it that HD has introduced a 2004 line-up that includes a series of new models. These are the completely redesigned XL Sportster family and the new VRSCB V-Rod power cruiser.

In addition to these new models, Harley-Davidson has also announced that all 2004 motorcycles will be covered by a two-year warranty. They are also extending most service intervals from 2,500 miles to 5,000 miles.

The Sportster family has been redesigned to include a brand new rubber-mounted power train. This offers a stiffer frame, and lower seat height. And not before time - did you know that the good old Sporty range is 47 years old this year?

To go with the one inch lower seat height, Harley-Davidson has responded to customer demands for greater fuel capacity on the all new 2004 Sportsters. They are now able to keep up with their Big Twin cousins. This means that extra fuel stops for the Sporty will become a thing of the past with the addition of a new 4.5 gallon petrol tank. As an added bonus the 2004 models now include a 150mm rear wheel and wider rear fender. And for the Sportster lovers who questioned the Motor Company’s design of the air cleaner, all models now include a new streamline air cleaner cover.

The V-Rod family has grown by one more new member with introduction of the VRSCB. The VRSCB V-Rod offers a new blacked-out styling. The black frame surrounds silver and black power train as well as black callipers, brake lines, black hand controls and rear shock springs.

The introduction of a new Road King Custom now offers a more comfortable seating position for those riders who found the Road King a little too wide and too tall. The FLHRS/FLHRSI has been restyled to include a set of Pullback Beach Bars as well as lowered rear suspension.

Electronic Fuel Injection has now been added as an option for the new Dyna Glide 2004 models. This model (my favourite - I ride a T-Sport) also receives a face lift with a new-look fuel tank, an updated control console and a restyling of the Dyna Glide line. The Wide Glide models will include Ape Hanger handle bars as well a stretched fuel tank and console. It will also sport a new 3-D Bar & Shield® with flame graphics paint design.

The Springer Softail gets a fresh look too with several new features such as a new seat and low-rise handlebars.

Colours also get revamped for 2004 and Harley-Davidson is set to offer 20 different colour schemes.

So if, like me, you are feeling a bit worn out remember that if HD can give the 47-year old Sportster some new colours, an extended warranty AND a set of rubbers - there is hope for you yet!
